Right lads, having previously attempted a Diemaco build (SFW I think, long barrel?) and very nearly wrapping it around a hard object in frustration, I want to have a go at doing it properly and I'd like some advice. There are some absolute stunners on here, and I hope I can get somewhere near the standard of you lot.

First off, base rifle? I attempted it before with a G&P, is that the best one?

Second, is there a specific front end I should be going for? Again before, I used a G&P RIS as it looked to me to be the best representation. Barrel and Supressor I know perr_mike is the chap to talk to about those. I intended to run a full length barrel and use the supressor if i wanted a shorter look.

Third, front sight block. I've seen a fair bit on here about reinforced front sights and bayonet lugs and it's totally confused me. My main aim is the long rifle, so using my complete lack of common sense, I'd assume that would have a bayonet lug and a normal front sight?

I kept the four point stock and butt pad from my original attempt, they're from a CAR15, is that acceptable?

I want to get this right, as doing a half arsed job second time round isn't acceptable. I'm ignoring what I've seen on my travels, as I've only had brief glimpses of Diemacos and could only tell because they look like M4's on viagra. You guys know far more about the look of the thing, so any and all advice is welcome and needed!

Cheers lads

G&P is very nice for base rifle.

Long rifle (16") = Optional reinforced front sight.

Short rifle (10") = Standard M4 front sight without lug.

The stock is fine as long as it is the good old M4A1 stock, and not the le-stock.

If your not looking for trades go with the

G&P M4 RAS (6 position) 7.4v lipo ready tube version

Get the G&P Mk18 Outer barrel (gives good length for the shorty with bayo lug removed and if you get the addition barrel segment from perr_mick should take you to 16" long gun version too)

Guarder CAR-15 Buttstock with pad

G&P Storm Grip

And unless I'm mistaken you should be golden

I can vouch for the G&P RAS, the quality is fantastic, and if you're a stickler for detail (like I am) it has the correct heat shield (matte black on the outside). A G&P base rifle would be great.

You should be forewarned, though, that it's not possible to run both a long and short config correctly with the same front sight.

As Arne implied, you then have the choice of using a standard M4 front sight post (supposedly used occasionally, I've not seen one in a picture), getting a replica reinforced FSP (rare and expensive when they do turn up) or milliputting your own from a normal M4 FSP (there are a few guys who have done that here, ask them for advice!).

I think I'll just be running the standard front sight, from what I've been told there's not a whole deal of difference between the standard and reinforced. I can always wrap a bit of grip tape around it and pretend it's reinforced!

If you go with the shorty or supressor it can have the standard front sight with the bayonet lug removed.

The latest C8's from Colt canada have the bayo lug fitted.

Also a point worth mentioning is that the newer models of the 16 have been seen with the standard M4 front sight and pistol grip rather than the enlarged one.

My C8 got its new home last week, BHI padded carry case....I also treated it to a pressure switch for the old skool G2 i have (to be replaced with the Z2 combatlight i'm building)

You kind of can like I do. I just have sniper tape around the front sight where the reinforcement should be and it keeps the front sling mount out of the way. Lop off the bayonet lug and you can switch between the two... It really depends how "anal" you are with your detail.

There are also photos about of C8s with standard front foresights and normal AR grips but we all need to remember just because its not in pictures doesnt mean its not happened.

I run mine with both barrel lengths and I have an army code sight - it's incorrect but I can't afford an alternative upper really. It really depends how much it bugs you - I am happy with it being right in one config, and passable in the one used less - atleast for now.

I have a couple of questions on mine, since it needs some finishing touches. Is a tan PEQ-15 correct, or has black been seen?

Also for a long version, what flash hiders are kosher? I currently just use a standard M4 one but fancy something abit more interesting if there's precenedt for it - I vaguely remember seeing a path finder with a BE Meyers vortex one in the old thread, pre forum resurrection?

It's a modified g36 one, can't remember exact brand.

It us mounted to the ris, which is how the real ones are but its a homebrew mount. Sight should be a few inches further forward but I'm using the mounting point I have atm.
