The information is out there and there is a lot of it to share so post up your questions or just post your advice and thoughts I have no doubt this thread will fill up and become the source of much knowledge.

For those who will come to read this thread who are thinking of getting an M14 it uses a version 7 gearbox, this is a very tricky bit of kit to pull apart and re assemble if you are not confident with gearbox take down and assembling take my advice and give it to someone who is as you can easily royally screw it up in the blink of an eye.

On the subject of the version 7 gearbox, I believe it was Morden who posted a guide for a "Rawlings Map" as he coined it (after a friend I believe).

Basically, tracing the outline of the gearbox onto corrogated cardboard, drawing the location of each screw on the shell, then punching a small hole in the cardboard at that location to hold the loose screw would provide a handy and useful way of keeping track of all parts :).

But alas, this guide (along with the take-down and pictures) has been lost to the depths of the Internet... :(

A very broad and sweeping statement that chap, especialy when you concider that the G&G and CA versions technicaly don't, they in effect only have a version 7 STYLE gearbox, topped off by the fact you can use V2/3 gearbox parts in it with the exception of the tappet plate, cylinder head, and nozzle, the latter being from an AUG. ;)

Far easier beast to work on aswell :D

Despite the legal limit being a lot less. You are suggesting that you own and use a sec 5 firearm, not very clever ;)

Please remember that discussion of fps levels over the forum limits is strongly frowned up on.

Sadly some people are still mis guided, unless its just a case of 'my balls are bigger than your balls' kind of talk, and we should all bow down to his superior power output, cuz we mere mortals are forgeting that the more fps you have the better shot you'll be....

My G&G 'Veteran' and SOC16 awaiting gearbox rebuild.

http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o306/vindicareassassin/Airsoft%20Weapons/B053.jpg

Solid wood stocked 'Veteran' has fully upgraded gearbox, using G&G upgrade parts, apart from piston which is a stock TM, running at 345ish. TM hop rubber with nub removed, home made SCS style nub glued to arm, Madbull Python 509mm barrel.

Just bought and will be rewireing to accomodate, an 11.1v Lipo and just made an AB MOSFET with Deans connectors

well, just bought a cyma '14 off another forum, should arrive wednesday.

its my first foray into them, as i mainly use a bolty to snipe with, so its going to get turned into a dmr.

what i really, really wanted was a G&G veteran, but cannot justify the price cos of the stupid recession causing my hours to be cut!

anywho, as said, its going to slowly get tweaked and tuned for accuracy, hoping to get it around 330 fps.

carry on!

Mr Joshua has my old M14 but for a long time I ran it very simply with a Systema barrel, M90 spring, Area1000 bushes and a Tasco 1.5-4 x 32 shotgun scope on very low rings. Was initially about 350fps, then settled down to under 340 after a breaking in period - I never felt the need for further upgrades although of course that was more due to budget than an absence of "upgrade-mania" :)

Not a great picture and of course bereft of all the usual garnish/rifle rag I fielded it with:

Shady, she has had a bit more done to her internaly with a metal semi auto latch, bearing spring guide, aero nozzle vented piston head polycarbonate Tappet plate. I am sure there are some other goodies in there but It was a while ago.

My TM M14, most reliable piece of kit I own and it shoots like the mutts nuts, has a socom barrel but original flash hider, takes a couple of inches off the length which makes it that bit easier to wield in tight situations
