Any kind of firearm is prohibited from carry on baggage. This includes BB guns and replicas of guns. Some guns are also banned from checked luggage, so be sure to check with your airline before packing a gun. Most airlines also do not allow ammunition in carry on luggage or checked bags, but again, check with your airline before assuming anything.
I would also suggest you contact customs and the Police to enquire if you need a "Permit to Transport" or something along those lines. Some countries have a outright ban on airsoft "imitiation firearms" and will be seized and destroyed.

For AirNZ you have to notify them 2 weeks in advance of what you wish to carry. This includes serial numbers of the items which is a fat lot of good on a 2 day stopover in HK shopping when I dont know what I want to bloody buy|!

the bigger problem is not the guns but the associated equipment that goes with it. ill try and explain below.
batteries
Li Pols: phropeted from carriage on passenger and cargo aircraft (PCF) under the limited quantity condition, this means that you will need a CAA approved shipper to prepare the paperwork for the batteries, a specialist box (must be an approved make). by far the biggest issue though is you need clearence from the airline for them to fly, you will get charged extra as this is now classifyed as cargo.
Nickel-Metal Hydride NiMH (normal airsoft batteries): these as far as i can tell are ok to travel in your luggage, however airlines may have specific rules that i cant see.
Gas
Propane/green gas: any gas that contians green gas in any part is completly banned from travelling on any PCF aircraft. this is becasue its a flamable compressed gas, and will go boom if anything goes wrong with it.
134a im unsure about however its still a compressed gas so your going to have problems on that one as well.
CO2: in the same situation as Lipol batteries, its going to be a pain in the ass.
this is all for gas in the orriginal cylinders/tins, as soon as you put it in a weapon magazine your completly out of luck.
Pyro is phropited with the exception on UN0014 Cartridges, Small arms, blank can be carried so long as the total weight does not exceed 5kgs and they are securly packaged.
